(Dar es Salaam) Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) Chief Executive Director Dr. Honorati Masanja has unveiled plans to establish an innovation hub in the Institute’s birthplace – Ifakara.

He revealed the good news on Tuesday evening October 2 2018 during a panel discussion on the topic, ‘Health Research and Innovation: The Role of the Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania and Beyond’ in which he was among panelists along with former IHI board member and director Prof Marcel Tanner and Innovation champion Mariam Mgonja.

“We want to go beyond papers… into products. We’re going to establish an innovation hub in Ifakara. This will give innovative minds to come together and work to tackle practical health challenges,” said Dr. Masanja, indicating that the hub will be up by next January.

The panel discussion preceded the releasing and screening of a documentary film depicting around half a century legacy of the founding father of IHI Prof. Rudolf Geigy. The event to premiere the film entitled, ‘The Legacy of a Driven Man: Why Rudolf Geigy Set Out for Africa’ was held at the Swiss Ambassador’s Residence on 17 Kenyatta Drive in Dar es Salaam. It tells an interesting story of Prof. Geigy’s research and conservation experience in Africa. #
