Clinical Research Coordinator of the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara (ICT department)

Maja Weisser Rohacek is the Clinical Research Coordinator for the Chronic Disease Clinic in Ifakara, a joint project involving the Ifakara Health Institute, St. Francis Referral Hospital, University Hospital Basel, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.

She completed her medical studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Throughout her career, Maja has held various positions, including the Head Physician of the ID Consultation Service at the Division of Infectious Diseases, University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, and Staff Physician roles in infectious diseases, internal medicine, and hematology transplant units. Notably, she served as the Head of the Chronic Disease Clinic in Ifakara, Tanzania, from 2016 to 2018.

Her research interests and involvement span various projects, including clinical trials related to hypertension treatment strategies, improving TB diagnosis in hospitalized patients with HIV, enhancing HIV care in adolescents, and addressing neonatal sepsis.

As part of her commitment to medical service improvement and training in the Ifakara Clinic Platform, she aims to enhance medical services, clinical research, and training. Maja Weisser Rohacek is affiliated with professional organizations such as the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS), Kilombero and Ulanga Antiretroviral Cohort Study Group (KIULARCO), Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS-ID), Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (SSI), Swiss Society of Internal Medicine (SGIM), and Swiss Association for Medicine (FMH).
