Mwelecele Ntuli Malecela

Board Member

Dr Malecela is a Chief Research Scientist and formerly the Director General of the National Institute of Medical Research, Tanzania (NIMR). She has been working with NIMR since 1987, first as a research scientist, becoming the Director of Research Coordination and Promotion in 1998; and in 2010 she was appointed as the Director General. Dr Malecela gained his PhD in Medical Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, where her research focused on parasite immunology and immune evasion mechanisms of Brugia pahangi. She is a world renowned expert on Neglected Tropical Diseases and has been at the forefront of the  Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination movement.
