Job Description

Position Summary Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician to support the implementation and daily operations of studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards in Bagamoyo. The successful candidate will work within the insectary, supporting the maintenance of mosquito colonies, preparation of specimens for experiments, and conducting field-based entomological activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He/she will be responsible for maintaining insectary facilities and equipment, ensuring proper functionality, recording environmental conditions, and reporting any technical issues to the Insectary Manager. The role includes rearing and feeding mosquito colonies, preparing mosquitoes for experimental procedures, assisting with entomological fieldwork, and ensuring that all data and documentation meet GLP and institutional requirements. The technician will also participate in required training programs and support additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Diploma in Laboratory Sciences or a related field, with prior experience working in an insectary environment. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of GLP standards and laboratory safety procedures, be skilled in mosquito rearing techniques, mosquito feeding assays, dissection methods, and entomological fieldwork.
