Idrisa Mchola is a Biotechnologist and Laboratory Scientist at the Ifakara Health Institute, where he contributes to cutting-edge research on malaria and other infectious diseases. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) obtained in 2021.

In his current role, Idrisa supports a variety of studies focused on malaria epidemiology and the application of advanced technologies such as mid-infrared spectroscopy and machine learning in disease surveillance. Over the past year, he has played a pivotal role in epidemiological malaria surveillance efforts and has led significant laboratory assays for detecting Onchocerca volvulus, the parasite responsible for the neglected tropical disease onchocerciasis, as part of the Deep-Oncho Project.

Idrisa’s academic foundation is rooted in epidemiological research methodologies and molecular biology, equipping him with a strong analytical skill set and the ability to handle complex research protocols. His expertise in reviewing technical reports and scientific publications further highlights his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
