The 2024 Malaria Forum, organized by Ifakara Health Institute in partnership with the National Malaria Control Program and the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Program, covened on April 30, 2024, at the White Sands Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

Under the theme "Malaria-Free Future: Integrated Strategies for Malaria Elimination," this year's forum was a hub for collaboration and innovation as stakeholders from government ministries, research institutions, academia, and innovative sectors will came together to shape the path toward a future free from malaria.

The guest of honor at the forum was the Chief Medical Officer, Prof. Tumaini Nagu. Key remarks were delivered by Dr. Honorati Masanja, Chief Executive Director of Ifakara, and a keynote address given by Dr. Ally Olotu, Director of Science at Ifakara, including remarks from other key partners from NIMR and SDC, the forum’s agenda will feature engaging presentations, insightful panel discussions, and innovative sessions designed to inform and inspire.

Sponsored by the Swiss Embassy in Tanzania, the forum aimed to foster meaningful discussions and actionable strategies. This year's discussions dug into the changing landscape of malaria transmission in Tanzania and explored upcoming technologies and strategies aimed at strengthening malaria control efforts.

Participants explored topics such as the challenges of implementing malaria control elimination strategies, the role of advanced research and technology in malaria surveillance, the deployment of approved innovations such as vaccines to combat malaria and sustainable investment approaches both globally and regionally.

In echoing the call of World Malaria Day – "Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement" – the 2024 Malaria Forum examined where Tanzania stands in its battle against malaria, how the disease dynamics are shifting, and what strategies and technologies are on the horizon to further enhance malaria control towards elimination.
