We, at the Ifakara Health Institute, are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives following the collapse of a four-story building in Kariakoo, one of Tanzania’s most vibrant commercial hubs, on the morning of November 16, 2024.

In a tribute message issued today, the Ifakara Health Institute Acting Chief Executive Director, Dr. Jerry Hella, says, “To those injured and affected, we send our prayers for a quick recovery and strength during this challenging moment.

“We commend the rescue teams and first responders for their unwavering dedication and efforts in the face of this devastating event. Their commitment inspires hope as the community comes together to support one another.”
