Position Summary
Ifakara Health Institute seeks qualified Masters of Science (MSc) to join the second phase of the project on molecular surveillance of malaria in Mainland Tanzania (MSMT2) . The role involves developing and implementing pipelines for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, including quality control, alignment, variant calling, and annotation. It includes performing bioinformatics analyses of genomic datasets from malaria parasites, identifying and characterizing genetic markers related to drug and diagnostic resistance, transmission dynamics, and other significant traits.

Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must be Tanzanian nationals with an undergraduate degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or mathematics, achieving a minimum GPA of 3.8. Strong preference is given to individuals with prior research experience in genomics, bioinformatics, or related fields, as evidenced by published papers. Practical experience in these areas, ideally 2-5 years, is highly valued. Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, Perl, or Java, coupled with familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases, is essential.
