Gates Ventures, the personal office of Bill Gates, prepares a documentary that intends to highlight Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)’s ground-breaking work on understanding the ecology of malaria mosquitos. US-video documentary maker, Handcuffed Creative Inc, has been hired to produce the short film.

The crew from the Seattle-based documentary firm spent three days (January 28-30, 2020) interviewing IHI Director of Science Dr. Fredros Okumu whom they chose as the main character and capturing at different scenes supporting footage of IHI research infrastructure in Ifakara town. The central focus was IHI’s Vector Sphere which is within the office compound and Mosquito City located about 10 kilometers from the heart of the town.

The end product, a three-minute video documentary, is intended to highlight IHI work on understanding the ecology of mosquitos. This IHI work is part of ongoing global efforts towards malaria elimination, which will ultimately improve the health of millions not only in Tanzania but also in other countries affected by the disease in the African continent.
