IMPACT: Ifakara science director to chair global symposium on vector control

Ifakara Health Institute Director of Science, Dr. Fredros Okumu, will chair the global symposium on vector control schedule to take place virtually on January 31st 2022. The forum will assess the global landscape of medical entomology training, taking into account the experience of current course organizers, students and stakeholders in applied medical entomology and vector control from highly diverse backgrounds.

According to the forum organizers, the symposium topic will be “Global Landscape Analysis of Training Courses in Medical Entomology for vector-borne disease control – lessons learned from existing courses and summary of needs assessment.”

Panelists lined up for the discussion, include: Prof. María Guadalupe Guzmán from Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute/IPK, Cuba; and Dr. Martin Akogbeto from Centre de Recherche Entomologique de Cotonou/CREC, Benin.

Other panelists are: Dr. Michelle Katusele from PNG Institute of Medical Research/IMR, Papua-New Guinea; Dr. Kelly Martinou from Joint Services Health Unit/JSHU, Cyprus and Prof. Theeraphap Chareonviriyaphap from Kasetsart University, Thailand.

Registration is required for this virtual forum – scheduled to run from 13:00-15:00 CET on Monday, January 31st 2022. Be sure to register by the set deadline which is January 27th 2022.
