Building Sustainable Modelling Capacity in Tanzania

Building Sustainable Modelling Capacity in Tanzania

As part of its second phase, the Building Sustainable Modelling Capacity in Tanzania project aims to establish sustainable expertise in data science and mathematical modeling. This will build upon the achievements of phase one of the project and continue to provide technical support to National Malaria Programs (NMPs).

Specifically, the project will strengthen malaria surveillance systems, adapt and extend existing models and develop novel mathematical models to address specific model-related questions (e.g., improvement of vector control trials and assessment of the impact of antimalarial drug resistance) and equip researchers and NMPs with the surveillance systems tools and models.

The three year project will involve joint collaboration between Ifakara Health Institute and International partners. The partners include JKCI, Swiss TPH, University of California Berkeley, University of Glasgow, and PAMCA.

Ifakara seasoned scientists Dr. Samson Kiware, will act as the Prinicipal Investigator of the poject with support from several team members from the Data Science team at Ifakara. As part of building expertise in data science and mathematical modeling, the team members involved in the project will be mentored and encouraged to apply for studentship and scholarships.
