Ms. Sarah Mswata is a lab technologist currently serving as Manager of the IHI Bagamoyo Laboratory. She has more than 10 years of experience in tuberculosis research and lab management. She holds an MSc in Applied Microbiology from the University of Dar es Salaam.
Ms. Mswata joined the Institute in 2009 as lab technologist. She is professionally trained in lab supervision and management, implementation and internal audit for ISO 15189:2015 for medical labs and, for ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and internal audit.
She has a strong background in molecular Biology and Biotechnology from his undergraduate degree studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Currently, she holds an MSc in Applied Microbiology from the same university.
Ms. Mswata began her career in research in 2009 as a Research Officer, posted to work in the laboratory, and since then she has participated in various clinical research activities. She is currently leading accredited lab sections of Haematology, Biochemistry, Parasitology, Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Biology at IHI.
Ms. Mswata has extensive experience on medical research in the fields of tuberculosis and lab management. She led the team that successfully facilitated accreditation of the IHI Lab in Bagamoyo with an ISO 15189: 2012 certificate.
Apart from being a Lab Manager, she is passionate about research and has embarked on different projects of epidemiology and clinical trials for tuberculosis and malaria. Her area of research interest is Non-Tuberculous Mycobacterium.#
