He has over seven-year experience in analysing different types of datasets (cross-sectional, clustered, binary, longitudinal and more), and conducting clinical trials to evaluate malaria drugs and malaria vaccine. He holds an MSc in Statistics.

Background & Education. Mr. Msuya joined the Institute in April 2012. He holds an MSc degree in Statistics specialized in Epidemiology and Public Health Methodology from University of Hasselt, Belgium where he completed his studies in 2018. Previously, he was trained as Information Technology (IT) expert at the Institute of Finance Management in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and graduated in 2010.

Currently, Mr. Msuya is developing his PhD proposal in comparing proactive and reactive therapeutic strategies for malaria control and elimination through modelling and simulation. His research interests range from epidemiology of infectious diseases as well as modelling of infectious diseases.

Since the time he joined IHI, he has been actively involved in a number of projects within and outside the Institute as a Data Manager and Data Analyst. From 2019, he started lecturing MSc Public Health Research students pursuing their Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) degrees at the Ifakara Health Institute Training Center in Bagamoyo. His courses include: Conceptualization of Research and Advanced Quantitative Analysis Methods.

Professional Experience and Skills. Mr. Msuya began his career in research in 2012 as a Field Supervisor and Data Manager at IHI and since then he has been participating in different epidemiological and clinical research activities in Tanzania. He has seven-year experience of working as a Data manager, Data Analyst, Statistician and Public Health Researcher. He has basic skills and extensive experience in data management and analysis, data mining, handling missing data and creation and management of data capture tools such as Open Data Kit (ODK), EpiData, EpiInfo, CSPro, Ms. Access, and MySQL. Research Areas. Mr. Msuya’s research interests include: epidemiology of infectious diseases; as well as modelling of infectious diseases. He is passionate about statistical as well as mathematical modelling of infectious diseases. He has been involved in developing numbers of study proposals within and outside the Institute. His master’s dissertation tittle was “Using drug sales data to do surveillance and prediction in Belgium 2017-2018”.

Projects. Currently, he is attached to the Environmental Health and Ecological Sciences research group as Research Scientist.
