While focusing on this year’s theme: “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives,” Dr. Masanja expressed commitment to the ultimate goal - malaria elimination - by maintaining this focus through Ifakara's comprehensive approach to research.

Short course on health impact assessment of large infrastructure projects

Ifakara Health Institute's Health Impact Assessment for Sustainable Development (HIA4SD) project plans to host a short course on health impact assessment of large infrastructure projects. The course is designed for environmental or social health experts/trainers and will be held at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Muhas) in Dar es Salaam for three days from June 14-16, 2022. Only 15 seats are available, so be sure to apply by May 15, 2022.

World TB Day 2022: Investing in research to end TB, save lives

Ifakara Health Institute observes the World TB Day 2022 on March 24. Each year, the world recognizes World TB Day on March 24 - an annual event that commemorates the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacillus that causes tuberculosis (TB).

CONDOLENCES: Ifakara remembers Dr. Mwele for her leadership in the Board

The director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Mwelecele Ntuli Malecela, widely known for a short form of her first name – “Mwele” died Thursday at the age of 58. Dr. Mwelecele served in the Ifakara Health Institute Board for slightly over five years – from 2010-2016, therefore Ifakara Health Institute has issued a condolence message following the death.

New Swahili App supports healthcare workers to ensure safe deliveries

Ifakara Health Institute and Maternity Foundation have partnered with the Danish Embassy in Tanzania and the Ole Kirk Foundation to launch a Swahili version of the Safe Delivery App – a mobile training tool and job aid for healthcare workers to ensure safer childbirths for mothers and newborns in Tanzania.

Ifakara tests efficacy of new, more effective malaria vaccine

Ifakara Health Institute clinicians administered the first doses of a new malaria vaccine in Tanzania on Saturday, October 2nd 2021. Three babies aged 5 - 36 months received their first japs at Kiwangwa area in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region.

The studentship will be funded through the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). Ifakara, partners inaugurate clinic for heart and lung diseases in Ifakara

Ifakara. Ifakara Health Institute and partners on Thursday, May 6th 2021 unveiled a new building that will house a clinic for heart and lung diseases. The new clinic services target a population of one million people mainly in the Kilombero Valley and surrounding areas.
