IMPACT: Ifakara’s 2025 in numbers
In 2025, Ifakara Health Institute strengthened its position as a leader in health research, policy engagement, and community impact.
Research excellence
Ifakara scientists published 160+ peer-reviewed papers, with 52 lead authors (28 men, 24 women), showcasing both scientific excellence and a growing gender balance in leadership. Over the year, the Institute launched 30+ new projects across malaria, TB, maternal and newborn health, nutrition, climate and health, and emerging infectious diseases, including 36 official project kick-offs led by IHI with local and international partners.
Academic & human capital achievements
Academic innovation continued with 12 new PhDs from world-class institutions. IHI also expanded its workforce, welcoming 72 new hires, 42% of whom were women, further strengthening the Institute’s capacity to advance its mission.
Global & local engagement
IHI actively contributed to five high-level policy dialogues, including engagements with parliamentarians and the Ministry of Health, and hosted three high-level multicountry dialogues bringing together global experts.
Community impact
Over 1,700 community members were directly engaged through screenings, testing, training, and outreach activities at both national and grassroots platforms, demonstrating IHI’s commitment to improving lives on the ground.
Digital reach
Online, the Institute’s work reached wider audiences than ever before, with nearly 1.65 million content views across social media platforms, including 39,000 active website users, 787,000 impressions on LinkedIn, 578,000 views on Instagram, and 281,000 views on Facebook.
Through research, engagement, and innovation, 2025 was a year of strengthened impact, evidence-based influence, and continued commitment to improving health outcomes locally and globally.
