The memorial service for the late Dr. Prosper Chaki is currently underway in Bunju, Dar es Salaam, at his family home. Dr. Chaki passed away on 24 January 2026 at the Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar es Salaam.

Today, colleagues from the Ifakara Health Institute, including staff from Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, have come together to honour the life and service of a respected leader who served as Director of Resource Mobilization and Stakeholder Engagement.

A church service will be held later today at Teule Parish of St. Michael the Archangel, Kimele, after which Dr. Chaki’s body will be escorted to Morogoro, his second home, in the evening. Additional memorial services will take place in Morogoro, with his final resting scheduled in Ifakara on 28 January 2026.

The gathering reflects the deep respect and gratitude held for Dr. Chaki’s contributions to the Institute and to public health more broadly.

The memorial is also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA), institutions with which Dr. Chaki worked closely throughout his distinguished career. Their presence underscores the lasting professional relationships and wide-reaching impact of his work.
