From February 9–13, 2026, Ifakara Health Institute convened a Social Science Manuscript Writing Workshop in Morogoro, Tanzania bringing together 23 social scientists and researchers from University of Dar es Salaam, Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Institute of Social Work, and Ifakara.

Speaking on behalf of the organizing team, Dr. Irene Moshi explained that the workshop aimed to strengthen scientific writing skills among social scientists and address the relatively low social science publication output in Tanzania. She emphasized the importance of amplifying lived experiences captured through research, noting that qualitative data represents voices that can drive meaningful change.

Facilitators included experts from Tanzania and the UK. Ann Kelly of University of Oxford was among facilitators of this workshop. Other facilitators came from: the Ifakara Health Institute, African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), and the University of Dar es Salaam.

The workshop was supported with funding from The British Academy.

Through a mix of lectures, hands-on writing sessions, and peer discussions, participants refined manuscripts, exchanged ideas, and strengthened networks, contributing to a more connected and productive social science research community in Tanzania.
