UNION DAY: Celebrating 62 years of unity, strength, and progress
April 26 stands as a defining chapter in Tanzania’s story, a day when two nations came together to shape one shared future. In 1964, the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar gave birth to the United Republic of Tanzania, setting in motion a legacy of unity that continues to define the nation today.
Guided by the visionary leadership of Julius Kambarage Nyerere and Abeid Amani Karume, this historic milestone laid the groundwork for a country built on cooperation, resilience, and a shared national identity.
As Tanzania marks 62 years of union, we celebrate more than history, we celebrate the enduring spirit of togetherness that drives progress across every sector and community. Union Day is a powerful reminder that our strength lies in unity, and that collective action continues to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.
The Ifakara Health Institute proudly joins the nation in commemorating this special day. Together, we honor where we come from and reaffirm our commitment to advancing health, innovation, and well-being for all Tanzanians
