On 4 June 2026, the Ifakara Health Institute, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP), and SORA Technology spoke with CGTN Africa about the recently launched Smart Drone Technology for a Malaria-Free Future in Zanzibar initiative.

This groundbreaking initiative, supported by the Government of Japan, uses AI-powered drones to strengthen malaria elimination efforts by improving the identification and targeting of mosquito breeding sites.

The integration of drone and artificial intelligence technologies offers a unique opportunity to enhance surveillance and management of mosquito habitats, particularly in hard-to-reach areas where conventional methods can be challenging.
