COMMEMORATION: Day of the African child

On this Day of the African Child, the Ifakara Health Institute joins the continent in honouring the strength, resilience, and potential of Africa’s children, under the theme: “Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services.”

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and supported, yet too many still face preventable illness, unequal access to care, and environments that put their well-being at risk. As a research institution dedicated to advancing health solutions, we remain committed to generating evidence that informs better policies and strengthens health systems for children and families across Tanzania and beyond.

Today is also a reminder that investing in children is investing in Africa’s future. From improving maternal and newborn health to tackling infectious diseases and environmental risks, science has a vital role to play in ensuring that no child is left behind.

We stand with communities, partners, and policymakers in building a future where every African child can thrive, dream, and reach their full potential.
