Ifakara Health Institute in collaboration with The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) hosted a one-day mini-symposium on TB projects. The symposium was held today in Dar es Salaam.

The TB projects being discussed included the outgoing "Sinergia 1" and the upcoming "Sinergia 2" – also famously known as the “TB DAR” project – which has been running at Temeke Regional Referral Hospital for the last 9 years.

Ifakara Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Honorati Masanja officiated the symposium and shared brief remarks on the significant impact the two TB projects have made in the diagnosis and treatment of TB.

Participating experts involved in the two TB projects – from Ifakara led by Dr. Jerry Hella and Swiss TPH led by Dr. Daniela Brites – engaged in two parts discussion sessions. During the first session, the participants discussed findings from "Sinergia 1" while in the second session, they looked at the new scientific direction of the planned "Sinergia 2" – set to begin later this year.

The symposium was attended by over 40 participants both physically and virtually. Among them were representatives from the National Institute for Medical Research Tanzania (NIMR); Management and Development for Health (MDH); PATH Tanzania; Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS); the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP-Dodoma); and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL).
