Today, Ifakara Health Institute conducted a crucial one-hour session for its staff on firefighting awareness at its Mikocheni offices in Dar es Salaam, led by Sergeant Amani Hassan from the Tanzania Fire Brigade of the Police Force based at Mwenge in the city.

It was divided into two informative segments: the first 30 minutes which explored the theories behind fires, while the subsequent 30 minutes focused on essential firefighting techniques applicable at home or in the workplace – aimed to empower Ifakara staff with the skills and knowledge needed to enhance workplace safety and readiness for fire emergencies.

What is fire safety

Fire safety encompasses a range of preventive measures and emergency preparedness strategies to reduce the risk of fires and protect lives and property. It includes practices like fire prevention, early detection through alarms, proper suppression tools, evacuation plans, building design, education, and access to emergency services. The goal is to minimize fire-related hazards and ensure a swift, safe response in the event of a fire.
