On December 14th, 2023, the Dar es Salaam Regional Secretariat, Ifakara Health Institute and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) joined forces towards conducting a situational analysis to set stage for the Health Equity Promotion Project for the Marginalized Living in Urban Settings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – this is a five-year project.

The 6-month situational analysis will be funded by the KOFIH and implemented by Ifakara. The timeline spans from December to 30th April next year, with a focus on conducting a comprehensive situation analysis. This preliminary phase is crucial for understanding the specific health needs and challenges faced by marginalized communities in Dar es Salaam. 

In a contract signing exercise, Ifakara was represented by the Chief Executive Director, Dr. Honorati Masanja, Dr. Zawadi Mageni Mboma, Head – Grants and Contracts, and Ibrahim Msuya – Ifakara’s researcher specializing in urban analysis and design. KOFIH was represented by Mr. OH Kyoung Kyun, Deputy Country Representative of KOFIH – Tanzania Office.

Following the analysis, the groundwork will be laid for the subsequent five-year project, set to be implemented by the Dar es Salaam Regional Secretariat.

The Health Equity Promotion Project for the Marginalized Living in Urban Settings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania aims to address health disparities among marginalized communities in the city, focusing on factors such as access to healthcare, education, and socio-economic determinants of health.
