Condolence Poster designed by Ifakara Communications

Ifakara Health Institute mourns the passing of Edward Lowassa, born on 26 August 1953. He was a Tanzanian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Tanzania from 2005 to 2008, under President Jakaya Kikwete.

Lowassa passed away on February 10th 2024 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in Dar es Salaam at the age of 70.

He was passionate about improving the school system, decreasing poverty, and increasing economic growth as his top priorities.

Lowassa’s political career unfolded during the presidency of Ali Hassan Mwinyi. He served as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and later as Minister for State in the Vice President’s Office for Environment and Poverty.

Notably, he was appointed Minister of Water and Livestock Development after the 2000 general elections.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all Tanzanians, both near and far, during this difficult time.

As we reflect on his life, may Edward Lowassa's soul find eternal peace, and may his legacy inspire future generations to contribute positively to the development of Tanzania.
