On May 15 2024, the PMI Shinda (DEFEAT) Malaria project, which is supported by the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) and executed by the Ifakara Health Institute and its partners, held in Dar es Salaam its second quarter meeting to plan for the second year of implementation.

Attendees include representatives from the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), President’s Office - Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), and the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP).

Naomi Serbantez, the PMI Resident Advisor in Tanzania, officially opened the meeting, commending the project for its collaborative efforts with government partners, notably showcased during the project's introduction at the 2024 World Malaria Day in Tabora.

She also expressed gratitude to all partners involved in the project's introduction in Tabora, spearheaded by the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel.

The meeting featured presentations from various result areas, sparking discussions, recommendations, and solutions. With the project phasing out in Katavi, Dr. Dunstan Bishanga, the Chief of Party for the PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria, urged the Ministry of Health, through the NMCP, to allocate resources to the Regional Health Management Team to prevent a surge in malaria cases.

In conclusion, Dr. Sarah-Blythe Ballard, also a PMI Resident Advisor, expressed gratitude to all partners for their participation and thanked the NMCP for its consistent support of interventions by the project, aimed at eradicating malaria in the country.
