WORKSHOP: Ifakara, Govt, and WHO unite to advance health-for-all policies
This week, in Morogoro, Tanzania, the Ifakara Health Institute, in collaboration with key government partners, is participating in a workshop organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). The workshop focuses on integrating health-for-all policies into training materials for the dissemination of the revised Primary Health Care Committee guidelines of 2022, aiming to address the determinants of health in the country.
Representing Ifakara, Dr. Sally Mtenga, Head of the Health Systems, Impact Evaluation, and Policy Department, joined colleagues from the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister's Office, the President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), and academic institutions including the Centre for Educational Development in Health Arusha (CEDHA) and Mzumbe University.
This crucial event brought together various sectors to ensure the effective implementation of the guidelines at the grassroots level. The team emphasized the importance of understanding and applying social determinants of health within the context of primary health care. Dr. Sally and the team also discussed the concept of "Health in All Policies" (HiAP), highlighting its relevance in integrating health considerations across all policy-making sectors at the primary health care level.
This collaborative effort represents a significant advance in strengthening primary health care in Tanzania. Ifakara is proud to be a part of this initiative, which is anticipated to play a crucial role in improving health outcomes and promoting equity in health services. “Primary Health Care is key to achieving universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.” WHO Tanzania, 15 August 2024.
