On this day, we commemorate a pivotal moment in the history of malaria research. On August 20, 1897, British doctor Sir Ronald Ross made a groundbreaking discovery by identifying the malaria parasite in the stomach of a female anopheles mosquito. This finding provided the first evidence that mosquitoes are responsible for transmitting malaria between humans.

World Mosquito Day, established to honor this discovery, serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing global fight against mosquito-borne diseases. At Ifakara, we remain committed to advancing research, developing innovative solutions, and raising awareness to combat the world’s deadliest creature.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our staff, collaborators and stakeholders for their unwavering support and collaboration in these efforts. Together, we can continue to make strides in the battle against malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.

Let’s use this day to reflect on the progress we’ve made and renew our commitment to a future free of malaria and other mosquito borne diseases.
