WORKSHOP: Regional engagement on genetics, mosquitoes for malaria elimination
On August 22, 2024, Ifakara Health Institute participated in a workshop co-organized by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) on the safety and Risk Analysis of Engineered Gene Drive Mosquitoes for Malaria Elimination.
Dr. Dickson Lwetoijera and Tibebu Habtewold from Ifakara’s Transmission Zero represented the Ifakara project, sharing their research and insights on the practical applications and challenges of gene drive technology. Their participation emphasized Ifakara’s commitment to innovative malaria control solutions and highlighted the importance of regional collaboration and alignment with local health priorities.
About Transmission Zero
Transmission Zero is a global malaria research program led by scientists at Imperial College London and Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), in partnership with the Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR).
