SUCCESS: Ifakara scientist wins fellowship on leadership in global health
Ifakara Health Institute is proud to share that Dr. Punam Amratia has been awarded the 2024 Alan J. Magill Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship was established by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Board of Directors in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to honor the life, legacy, and contributions of Alan J. Magill, MD, FASTMH, a respected leader in the global tropical medicine community.
The fellowship provides $50,000 in funding over a period of up to two years to one recipient from a low- or middle-income country (L/LMIC). Its goal is to support mentorship, career development, and leadership projects for early- to mid-career ASTMH members in these regions, with a focus on advancing leadership in tropical medicine and global health.
Dr. Amratia joins an esteemed group of fellowship recipients, including Issiaka Soulama from the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé (IRSS) in Burkina Faso; Fitsum Girma Tadesse from the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in Ethiopia; Tshokey Tshokey, PhD, from Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Bhutan; Awa Bineta Deme from the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Senegal; Deusdedith Ishengoma from the NIMR-TANGA Center in Tanzania; Abhilasha Karkey, MD, PhD, from Patan Hospital in Nepal; and Pedro Aide, MD, from the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhic in Mozambique.
