Two researchers from the Ifakara Health Institute, Dr. Peter Binyaruka and Donat Shamba, are representing the Health Systems, Impact Evaluation, and Policy (HSIEP) department at the 8th Health Systems Research (HSR2024) Global Symposium in Nagasaki, Japan. The event, held from November 19 to 22, 2024, gathers global health experts biennially to discuss advances in health systems research.
Dr. Binyaruka took part in a session on "Financing Essential Medicines for Universal Health Coverage," organized by ThinkWell Global. The session explored case studies from Tanzania, Kenya, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Dr. Binyaruka highlighted Tanzania’s innovative approach to scaling up the Jazia Prime Vendor (JPV) system, a strategic solution designed to enhance the national Medical Stores Department (MSD) in ensuring an efficient and reliable supply chain for essential medicines.
Additionally, Dr. Binyaruka participated as an editor of the Health Policy and Planning journal in a session that launched special issues of the journal. The session provided a platform for networking with researchers interested in publishing their work in the journal.
