VISIT: US Ambassador witnesses cutting-edge research facilities in Bagamoyo, Tanzania
Today, Ifakara Health Institute had the privilege of welcoming the U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania Michael Battle for a site visit to research platforms located at the Institute’s offices in Kingani, Bagamoyo, where he witnessed the institute's scientific work in action.
Ambassador Battle was received by the Institute's Chief Executive Director, Dr. Honorati Masanja, and was briefly given an overview of Ifakara’s rich history of over five decades of impactful research dedicated to advancing community health and well-being.
Ifakara Health Institute implements the PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria project along with partners – this is a five-year program (2023-2027) – which supports the Government of Tanzania’s efforts towards malaria elimination. This program is funded by the American People through the USAID and PMI.
During his visit, the Ambassador toured the Institute's cutting-edge research facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories, the insectary, experimental huts, and the Transmission Zero facility, all situated within the Kingani campus.
US affirms commitment to support Ifakara science
At the conclusion of the tour, Ambassador Battle reaffirmed the U.S. government's commitment to supporting the science and groundbreaking research conducted by Ifakara.
He also shared his optimism for the future, inspired by the talented young scientists he met at the Kingani campus, emphasizing that their work holds the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
