WORKSHOP: Ifakara scientists sharpen manuscript writing skills
From November 26-27, 2024, malaria research scientists from the Ifakara Health Institute convened in Bagamoyo for the Manuscript Writing Ideas Conceptualization Workshop.
Organized by the Ifakara Directorate of Science in collaboration with the PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria Project, the workshop aimed to enhance participants' skills in manuscript writing while fostering collaboration among researchers.
The event provided a platform for participants to conceptualize and draft manuscripts addressing critical issues in malaria implementation science. Key focus areas included malaria case management, malaria in pregnancy, social behavior change, malaria surveillance, and therapeutic efficacy studies. By analyzing implementation program data, participants explored innovative approaches to tackling challenges within the PMI Shinda Malaria Project's scope.
Led by Ifakara’s top malaria experts
A team of experienced facilitators guided the workshop, bringing diverse expertise to mentor participants. These included Prof. Fredros Okumu, Dr. Dunstan Bishanga, Dr. Kefas Mugittu, Pamela Kweka, Dr. Patrick Gulinja, Dr. Mwaka Kakolwa, and Dr. Francis Levira. Their guidance was instrumental in helping participants develop impactful manuscript ideas aligned with the project's objectives.
Building momentum for January 2025
The workshop also laid the groundwork for the next phase: a five-day writing workshop scheduled for January 2025. During this phase, participants will refine their manuscript ideas into drafts with continued mentorship. This structured approach ensures the effective translation of program findings into actionable knowledge for malaria control and policy.
This initiative reflects IHI's commitment to strengthening research capacity and driving innovation in malaria implementation science. The manuscripts resulting from this effort are expected to contribute significantly to advancing global malaria research and improving health outcomes.
