Every 9th of December, we celebrate the journey that led to our nation’s freedom—a day to honor the struggles, sacrifices, and visionaries who paved the way for Tanzania’s sovereignty.

In 1961, under the visionary leadership of Julius Nyerere, the first President, Tanzania – then Tanganyika – proudly broke free from colonial rule, beginning a new chapter of hope and self-determination.

On this special day, Ifakara Health Institute extends its warmest wishes to all Tanzanians at home and abroad. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let us commit ourselves to building a healthier, more inclusive, and prosperous future for all.
