On March 11, 2025, in Morogoro, the Ifakara Health Institute proudly supported Tanzania’s Ministry of Health in sharing the Primary Health Care Committee Guideline (2022) with key stakeholders. The meeting aimed to strengthen primary health care (PHC) systems across the country and enhance the overall delivery of PHC services.

During a high-level meeting backed by the Global Fund, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG), as well as regional and district medical officers from across mainland Tanzania—convened to discuss the guideline’s implementation.

Dr. Sally Mtenga, Senior Research Scientist at Ifakara, facilitated discussions on “Health in All Policies” and “Social Determinants of Health”—both critical elements included in the new PHC guideline. She emphasized the urgent need for ensuring stronger intersectoral collaboration at the primary health care level in tackling preventable health challenges, including disease outbreaks. She stressed that sustainable health outcomes will be achieved if all sectors have a health policy agenda instead of depending on the health sector alone.

Ifakara is excited to have played a role in this important meeting, contributing to the improvement of Tanzania's health system, and looks forward to ongoing, close collaboration to drive even greater impact.
