
FORUM: Ifakara presents at health economics and policy conference in Kigali
Three scientists from the Ifakara Health Institute are attending the 7th African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA) Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, from March 10th to 14th, 2025. The conference brings together experts to explore innovative approaches for improving health system financing and policies across Africa.
Dr. Peter Binyaruka will lead two sessions. The first, “Enhancing Financial Autonomy at Primary Health Care Facilities in Tanzania: Insights from Direct Facility Financing (DFF) Implementation,” highlights how DFF has improved financial independence and service delivery at primary health facilities. In his second session, “Direct Facility Financing Mechanism in Tanzania: A Scoping Review of Evidence,” he will present a review of DFF’s effectiveness and its potential for scaling in Tanzania.
Francis Ngadaya will share insights on “Socioeconomic-Related Health Inequalities in Tanzania: Evidence from the National Household Budget Survey,” addressing how socioeconomic factors contribute to health disparities in the country.
John Maiba will offer his findings on “Understanding the Experience and Perceptions of Providers and Purchasers for Provider Payment Methods in Tanzania,” exploring the views of healthcare providers and purchasers on payment mechanisms.
Their participation provides a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and discuss solutions to improve health financing and policies across Africa.
