From March 17–25, 2025, researchers from the Ifakara Health Institute and the Jakaya Kikwete Institute of Cardiology (JKCI) attended an intensive grant writing bootcamp hosted by the Data Science and Mathematical Modelling program in Dar es Salaam.

Guided by seasoned researcher Dr. Samson Kiware, Principal Research Scientist, and Zawadi Mageni-Mboma, Business Development and Partnerships Specialist at the Ifakara Health Institute, participants explored strategies to craft compelling proposals, respond effectively to funding calls, and refine groundbreaking research ideas.

With a focus on innovative solutions to pressing local health challenges, the workshop encouraged researchers to sharpen their pitches, ensuring their projects stand out in an increasingly competitive funding landscape.

In attendance were Ifakara Innovation Hub, represented by Director Masoud Mnonji and Innovation Program Lead Abbas Sykes, to provide expert input on using innovation to boost research and navigating health tech solutions. Their contributions added great value to the bootcamp.

This session is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Ifakara and JKCI to strengthen research capacity and enhance grant acquisition efforts. Ifakara is proud to have hosted this session and looks forward to many more that will continue to empower researchers and drive impactful health innovations.
