Earlier this month, Ifakara Health Institute Research Scientist Jacqueline Minja was featured in Nipashe – one of the leading Tanzania’s national newspapers, where she discussed her study which underscores the importance of birth spacing.

The research reveals that nearly half of all births in Tanzania occur within short intervals, increasing health risks for both mothers and children.

The study, in which Minja is lead author, was published on February 19 on the BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth journal. Study findings highlight major gaps in reproductive health services and call for targeted interventions, such as enhanced reproductive health education, improved access to contraceptives, and strategic media campaigns to raise awareness.
