EXHIBITION: Ifakara showcases innovation at National Health Week in Dodoma

From April 3-8, 2025, Ifakara Health Institute participated in the inaugural National Health Week event held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Center in Dodoma. Organized by the Tanzania’s Ministry of Health, the event aimed to celebrate progress in the health sector, highlighting challenges, and finding solutions to improve healthcare services for all Tanzanians.
Held under the theme “"Where We Came From, Where We Are and Where We Are Going: Building a Strong and Healthy Nation," the event brought together health experts, institutions, and stakeholders from across the country.
Ifakara was represented by a five-members led by Faraji Abilahi, Public Engagement Coordinator and Head of Laboratories. The team included Edgar Martin, a clinician at the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara (CDCI); Evance Mahundi, a clinician at the Heart and Lung Clinic; Polius Pinda, a research scientist; and Francia Allen Tumbo, a Lab and Community Malaria Testing Technician.
Throughout the week, the team showcased the Institute’s cutting-edge research and innovations such as mosquito traps and medical lab equipment used in various research projects. They also conducted interactive health education sessions with visitors at the Ifakara booth addressing key health issues such as mosquito control, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, hygiene and waste management, and mental health.
In addition to the exhibition, the team also provided free health screenings for malaria and blood pressure while engaging directly with visitors to raise awareness and encourage healthier lifestyles.
