WORKSHOP: Strengthening collaboration to improve newborn and child health in Tanzania

The Ifakara Health Institute, through the NEST360 program, took part in the Newborn and Child Health Technical Working Group (NCH-TWG) Meeting held from 29–30 May 2025 in Dar es Salaam.
The two-day meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and President's Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG), brought together key stakeholders to review progress, share updates, and strengthen collaboration on critical newborn and child health priorities in Tanzania.
As part of the agenda, the NEST360 team — represented by Mariam Johari, Country Liaison, and Josephine Shabani, Data Scientist — presented findings on Neonatal Care Unit (NCU) infrastructure and roadmap results, highlighting progress made in strengthening neonatal care services across the country. Their presentation provided an overview of facility readiness, infrastructure improvements, and the roadmap guiding continued efforts to reduce newborn mortality.
By participating in the NCH-TWG, Ifakara and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to advancing evidence-based interventions, supporting national health strategies, and working alongside government and partners to improve outcomes for newborns and children in Tanzania.
