Three researchers from the Ifakara Health Institute Dr. Peter Binyaruka, Francis Ngadaya, and John Maiba attended the 16th International Health Economics Association (IHEA) World Congress, held in Bali, Indonesia, from July 19 to 23, 2025.

This global gathering brought together leading health economists, policy experts, and researchers to exchange ideas and share evidence that informs health system reforms around the world.

For Ifakara, the congress offered a timely platform to disseminate research findings from the Provider Payment Mechanism in Tanzania (PPMT) project. The study aims to understand the experiences, preferences, and effects of provider payment mechanisms (PPMs) in Tanzania.

Each of the three scientists presented in separate sessions, sharing insights that drew interest from global peers and contributed to broader conversations on strategic purchasing and health financing reforms.

Participation in IHEA 2025 not only elevated Ifakara’s presence in international health economics dialogue but also reaffirmed the Institute’s growing role in generating evidence to support smarter, more sustainable health financing policies across Africa.
