AWARD: Ifakara scientist named fellow in implementation science leadership programme

Ifakara Health Institute early-career researcher Dr. Betwel Msugupakulya has been selected as one of eight inaugural fellows in the TDR Implementation Science Leadership Programme for Public Health Impact — a recognition of his dedication to advancing malaria elimination through innovative research.
The competitive fellowship, coordinated by TDR and its training partners, aims to strengthen the capacity of public health practitioners and researchers in low- and middle-income countries to tackle pressing health challenges using implementation science. This year’s cohort comprises five public health practitioners and three researchers, drawn from across the globe.
Dr. Msugupakulya will be hosted at the University of Ghana for a period of up to 12 months, where he will further his work on the ecology and behaviour of disease vectors. His research focuses on developing and evaluating complementary vector control interventions to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination.
Since 2015, TDR has supported over 500 scholars — half of them women — through its Master of Public Health programmes with a focus on implementation research, building a strong network of practitioners equipped with the skills to deliver evidence-based health solutions.
Dr. Msugupakulya’s fellowship award further cements Ifakara Health Institute’s role in producing science that drives local and global health progress.
