ENGAGEMENT: Safeguard Young People (SYP) Mid-Term Review Inception Meeting

On September 2, 2025, the Ifakara Health Institute joined partners at the Embassy of Switzerland in Dar es Salaam for the Safeguard Young People (SYP) Phase II Mid-Term Review (MTR) Inception Meeting.
The SYP programme, led by UNFPA and the Embassy of Switzerland, seeks to empower adolescents and young people aged 10–24 by expanding access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), strengthening life skills, and promoting active youth engagement in national development. Through advocacy, education, and service delivery, the programme adopts a holistic approach to advancing youth wellbeing and empowerment across the region.
Building on the findings of Phase I, Ifakara has been commissioned to lead the Mid-Term Review of Phase II implementation in Tanzania. The review will assess progress, identify gaps, and inform strategic adjustments to maximize impact during the remainder of the implementation period and guide future engagements.
The Ifakara review team is led by Dr. Getrud Mollel (Lead Consultant), with contributions from Dr. Augustine Joachim, Jossam Katanga, Naomi Massanja, and Samwel Lwambura all from Ifakara.
The inception meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Head of Health Domain from the Swiss Embassy and programme officers from both the Swiss Embassy and UNFPA, who emphasized the importance of evidence-based insights in shaping the direction of SYP.
With the inception meeting concluded, the IHI team will embark on the review process, ensuring that the voices and needs of young people remain central to programme delivery and impact.
