On September 15, 2025, the Basel Research Centre for Child Health (BRCCH) hosted a seminar titled “Evidence in focus: using visual analytics to shape the future of insecticide-treated nets procurement.”

The session brought together leading experts from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), the Ifakara Health Institute and the University of Basel to reflect on the role of data, cost-effectiveness, and new technologies in advancing one of the most widely used malaria prevention tools—the insecticide-treated net (ITN).

In her opening keynote, Prof. Sarah Moore, Head of the Vector Control Product Testing Unit at Ifakara, highlighted the importance of economic evidence in guiding decision-making for vector control innovation. Emmanuel Mbuba, Research Scientist at Ifakara, shared emerging field insights on the durability of ultra-long-lasting insecticidal nets, shedding light on progress in real-world evaluations and the challenges faced in ensuring that nets remain effective throughout their intended lifespan.

We are glad to have participated in this exchange of knowledge and ideas, which underscored how evidence-based approaches and innovative tools can help shape smarter, more sustainable strategies for malaria prevention.
