ENGAGEMENT: CDCI delivers health outreach at Kilombero fishermen camps
The Chronic Disease Clinic of Ifakara (CDCI) conducted a community outreach on November 29, 2025, ahead of World AIDS Day, targeting fishermen’s camps located in Itoo, Kahulikila, Luono in the Kilombero District. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about HIV and provide essential health services to remote communities with limited access to care.
The outreach focused on empowering communities to take charge of their health and promoting early detection of key conditions. Health experts from CDCI, led by Regina Ndaki, Leila Samson, and Edgar Enzigard, together with Fredrick Kazetela from USAID and local community volunteers, engaged residents through interactive sessions covering HIV prevention, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and sexual and reproductive health.
A wide range of clinical services was offered, including HIV testing, TB screening, blood pressure screening, BMI checks, random blood glucose testing, focused ECHO assessments, and cervical cancer screening. These services were tailored to address rising health risks in fishing communities, which often face barriers to routine health check-ups. The outreach attracted fishermen, their families, and community members from surrounding villages.
The event not only commemorated World AIDS Day but also strengthened ties with communities at high risk, promoting sustained wellness beyond the annual campaign.
Through this outreach, CDCI reaffirmed its commitment to equitable health care access and the global call to end the AIDS epidemic through awareness, testing, and compassionate service delivery.
