Post-Doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics (1 Post) - Dar

The role involves collaborating with stakeholders to enhance local capacity for molecular, genetic, genomic, and serological lab work and data analytics to support the project objectives.

Position Summary
Ifakara Health Institute seeks a qualified Post-Doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics to join the second phase of the Molecular Surveillance of Malaria in Mainland Tanzania (MSMT2) project. The ideal candidate will be responsible for optimizing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data pipelines and performing bioinformatics analyses on genomic datasets from malaria parasites or vectors. Key tasks include identifying genetic markers associated with drug resistance and transmission patterns, integrating genomic data with clinical and epidemiological information to better understand malaria dynamics, and collaborating with researchers to design interdisciplinary studies. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will also provide technical support to the MSMT2 project team and contribute to project management from inception to completion.

Qualifications and Experience
The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genomics, Data Science, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.8 in their first degree. They must have experience in large-scale data analysis, genomic data interpretation, and bioinformatics tool development, as well as proficiency in scripting languages for data analysis and workflow automation. Additionally, they should have experience in leading or managing research projects and coordinating with team members and partners.
