CONDOLENCES: Ifakara pays tribute to the Hanang flood victims

Hanang District, situated among the six districts of the Manyara Region in Tanzania, has been hit by
severe flash floods which have resulted in deaths, casualties, and the displacement of numerous
individuals.


The floods swept through Katesh and Gendabi towns on the slopes of Mt. Hanang on Sunday, December
3, 2023, following heavy rainfall. Following this devastating and tragic incident, Ifakara Health Institute
Chief Executive Director, Dr. Honorati Masanja, has conveyed a message of condolences to the Hanang
community.

PRESS RELEASE: Chronic TB can now be treated for only 6 months!

For the first time in the recent medical development history, almost all patients with chronic TB, which is technically called DR-TB, can be treated for six months using oral drugs. Short course on health impact assessment of large infrastructure projects

Ifakara Health Institute's Health Impact Assessment for Sustainable Development (HIA4SD) project plans to host a short course on health impact assessment of large infrastructure projects. The course is designed for environmental or social health experts/trainers and will be held at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Muhas) in Dar es Salaam for three days from June 14-16, 2022. The director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Mwelecele Ntuli Malecela, widely known for a short form of her first name – “Mwele” died Thursday at the age of 58. Dr. Mwelecele served in the Ifakara Health Institute Board for slightly over five years – from 2010-2016, therefore Ifakara Health Institute has issued a condolence message following the death.
