Alan Magill Fellowship
The Alan J. Magill Fellowship, established in honor of Dr. Alan J. Magill, a pioneer in global tropical medicine and supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (ASTMH), aims to support career-broadening experiences in tropical medicine. This fellowship emphasizes mentorship, leadership development, and professional growth.
Valued at $50,000 over two years, the fellowship includes additional support for participation in ASTMH Annual Meetings. It aims to foster leadership skills through mentorship and training, creating a diverse and inclusive modeling team in Africa. Collaboration with Tanzania’s NMCP will integrate modeling into decision-making processes, while partnerships with WHO-GMP and WHO-AFRO PPH will align modeling efforts with policy frameworks.
Moreover, the fellowship seeks to empower women in science through a dedicated mentorship program for African women in geospatial modeling, which includes organizing capacity-building events and publishing a mentorship framework. Dr. Punam Amratia, Senior Research Scientist at Ifakara Health Institute, will oversee the implementation of this fellowship project.
