Data scientist managing complex datasets related to health

Janice Stephen Maige is a Research Officer at Ifakara Health Institute working as a Data Scientist specializing in R, PHP, Java, and SQL. Her expertise in R extends to analyzing and managing health-related data, demonstrating proficiency with complex datasets.

Janice has experience in manuscript writing and a background in grant application processes. Her dedication to her field is evident through her active involvement in projects and initiatives such as her enrolment in a Master's in Data Science program and collaboration with Artificial Intelligence for Development, AI4D – Lab, to develop a machine learning model for prostate cancer detection. She has presented her work at international and national conferences, co-chaired a session at the ASTMH annual meeting, and organized workshops on vector control using modeling techniques. 

Janice holds a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Dar es Salaam and is currently pursuing a Master's in Data Science from the same institution. She aims to pursue a Ph.D. in infectious diseases, with a focus on leveraging data to contribute to combating infectious diseases. 

Janice is an active member of professional organizations, including PAMCA and OWSD, and serves as a Google Women TechMakers Ambassador. She is involved in projects such as MosquitoDB, the development of visualizations and language change features, as well as contributing to studies on mosquito behavior, analysis, manuscript write-ups, grant writing, and training NMCP stakeholders. As a Community Lead, she has successfully led teams, managed budgets, and driven positive change within the community. She is dedicated to fostering supportive communities and empowering young individuals in their careers.
