Alex, shaping tomorrow's health systems, has been actively involved in geospatial analysis work across various projects at IHI since 2009. Beginning with mapping the entire city of Dar es Salaam under the Malaria Transmission Consortium (MTC), he utilized satellite imagery and mapped ten-cell unit boundaries with support from local government offices. His contributions extend to the development of innovative malaria vector surveillance tools, such as the miniaturized double net trap (DN-Mini), ensuring the safety of human volunteers during field mosquito collections.
In addition to his research, Alex has a teaching role, facilitating lectures on Geographical Information System (GIS) and Geo-spatial modules for the Masters of Science in Public Health Research (MPHR) program at Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Bagamoyo campus, in collaboration with Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) from 2018 to the present.
Alex holds a Master of Science in Parasitology and Medical Entomology from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), earned from 2021 to 2023 through a research and publications-based program. Prior to this, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Management from The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) from 2015 to 2018. Furthering his expertise, Alex completed a course in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (GIS Specialization) from Ardhi University in conjunction with ITC - University of Twente in the Netherlands in June 2012, equivalent to an advanced diploma. He also holds a diploma in Computer Information Technology, Networking, and PC Maintenance from Mac Maine School of Computing, under the Business & Computing Examination (BCE) center in Tanzania (2009-2010).
