Neema Zephania Zablon is a Research Officer within the Environmental Health and Ecological Sciences (EHES) department at the Ifakara Health Institute. Having served as a Research Officer since 2020, she has acquired experience and a diverse skill set in machine learning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including Python, R, C++, MATLAB, CSS, SPSS, HTML, JavaScript, Django, and navigating complex data landscapes.
She holds a Master of Science degree in Quantitative Methods in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Ecology obtained from the University of Glasgow, IBAHCM, in November 2023.
Neema’s notable projects at Ifakara include "Deep Surveillance," which employs artificial intelligence and infrared spectroscopy for vector surveillance. In this capacity, she conducted comprehensive reporting on applying mid-infrared spectroscopy to predict mosquito age, species type, and blood meal host.
Neema has led scientific initiatives to advance research objectives in "An Online Platform for Malaria Vector Surveillance in Africa using Artificial Intelligence and Mosquito Infra-Red Spectroscopy." Her contributions included establishing best practices for estimating aging rates in wild mosquitoes and analyzing ecological and environmental determinants to optimize prediction accuracy.
Beyond her project work, Neema is actively engaged in academic pursuits, currently writing two manuscripts and continually developing her skills in mathematical modeling and artificial intelligence.
